is recognized as a leading international center of knowledge, higher education, and research in environment and biosciences. The NMBU provides cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research and education in water science & technology, natural resource management, food sciences, veterinarian sciences, human health, and new cross-disciplinary programs that provide society with new opportunities to create sustainable development to the benefit of current and future generations. The vision of NMBU is Knowledge for Life. The research strategy of the Faculty of Environmental Science and Technology (Realtek) is to prioritize education for sustainable development. The objectives of this group are to promote research, development, innovation, and capacity building on water infrastructure, stormwater management, water treatment technologies, resource recovery, water-related diseases, safe water and sanitation, health risk modeling, and environmental impact assessment with the aim to improve environmental quality and health, locally, nationally and globally. Presently, the group is collaborating with universities and companies from more than 30 countries carrying out student exchange, research in the interface between the subjects of water, environment, technology, biology, social sciences, and public health.

- a public institution for higher education and research, offering 31 higher education specializations in faculties of sciences, environment, materials engineering, mechanics, food engineering, electrical engineering, economics, and humanities. The university focuses its research on corresponding fields, in specialized research centers recognized at the institutional level and accredited by the Romanian National Council for Scientific Research. Sustainable development, eco-nano-technologies, materials, and nanomaterials are among the main specialization areas of the research activities. In the last 5 years VUT had 20 research dedicated projects and also human resources development projects at the national level. VUT project team consisting of members with relevant competencies and expertise, together with early research students with the potential to develop their careers in the field. The team contains chemists, chemical engineers, material engineers, and master students whose recent activity and research results focused on areas relevant for the project (i.e. development of novel functionalized materials - colloidal solutions, hydrogels, polymers, etc., with processes optimization, and their physico-chemical characterization). Development of new specific analytical methods able to provide reliable data and experimental evidence of products of complex matrixes quality as well as interrelation with their preparation processes are also the current focus of the VUT research team. Also, working in both public and private organizations is part of team members' experience, subsequently a good understanding on applying the innovation and research results to reach private needs. In the last years, some of the VUT team members were involved with good results in research activities requested by local private companies and performed oriented specific research with good accepted results.

- a governmental research institute conducting applied and targeted research linked to multifunctional agriculture and rural development, plant sciences, environmental protection, and natural resource management. NIBIO has a strong focus on resource management, bioprocesses, renewable energy, nutrient recirculation, and sustainable end products as part of the circular economy. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, recycling technologies, and the reuse and valorization of bioresources, e.g., food waste, manure, fish waste/sludge, sewage sludge, and lignocellulosic biomass, is an integrated part of the activities. NIBIO is well equipped with lab-scale bioreactor systems for the production of biogas and microalgae, and a large variety of analytical systems. The institute is also a partner in The Norwegian Centre for Sustainable Bio-based Fuels and Energy, which is a cooperation between recognized Norwegian research groups, and in close collaboration with leading national and international industrial partners, national stakeholders, and international research groups.
NIBIO’s Division of Environment and Natural Resources is an R&D-driven professional environment within research on soil, water, waste, vegetation, green technology, and climate. The aim is to find, present and make use of research-based knowledge when trying to understand, protect and utilize our environment and natural resources in the best possible way.
The department of Bioresources and Recycling Technologies is comprised of approx. 15 researchers and technicians and offers a unified technical competency within the utilization of and technical solutions for bioresource recycling and has strong expertise in microalgae research conducting of process studies, process optimization and technology development of microalgae in the production of specialty products, and for use and concentration of nutrients.

 - environmental research institute where multidisciplinary skills and technological know-how of approx. 150 scientists are brought together in 4 departments dealing with environmental protection and innovation. Within ECOIND, advanced and applied research, mainly experimental activities, are focused on control, assessment, prevention, and abatement of pollution: environmental monitoring and control (water, soil, air, and wastes), aquatic ecotoxicity assessment; environmental bio/technologies for water and wastewater treatment, soil bioremediation; and environmental risk assessment. Due to the highest quality standards in its area of expertise, the institute is considered both a reliable partner and a trusted source of professional expertise. ECOIND has a certified Quality Management System (ISO 9001) and its laboratories are also accredited (ISO 17025) for physico-chemical, biochemical, biological, and microbiological analyses. Fundamental and applicative research activities are carried out with state-of-the-art analytical and technological equipment.
The Environmental Technology and Technology Transfer Department contributing to the GRAALrecovery project implementation gathers the expertise of biotechnology engineers, biologists, chemical engineers, and technology development engineers to reach the research goals of developing new environmental technologies and biotechnologies for water and wastewater treatment, residual biomass treatment, and management.
